Eastern Switzerland is an interesting, scenic area, with the monastery town of St. Gallen lying between Lake Constance and the Säntis (2503 m.a.s.l.) a popular mountain for climbers; medieval Schaffhausenwith the world-famous Rhine Falls; traditional Appenzell with its famous Swiss cheese and old customs; Canton Glarus; Walensee, the Rhine Valley with Sargans and its castle and vineyards. The tiny principality of Liechtenstein with its capital Vaduz is close by, and always worth a visit. The elegant conference and thermal resort of Bad Ragaz with its casino and golf-course can easily be combined with Zurich as a supporting programme or with the Grisons.
